Experts in safeguarding and child protection

About PCA

Experienced, dedicated child safety advocates

History

After spending years working in child protection roles within the Early Education and Care Sector, Brad became increasingly frustrated at the lack of availability, quality and affordability of child protection and safeguarding training that was available for Early Educators. It became obvious that the same gap existing for General Practitioners, Dentists, physiotherapists and tradespeople that work with children.

Poynting Consulting & Advisory was created in response to this frustration and in line with the message of National Child Protection week - "Child protection is everyone's business." PCA believe that protecting children starts with a solid foundation in knowing what harm and abuse is and the ability to recognise when it is occurring.

PCA has specialised in working with organisations to create child-safe organisations. Any organisation that has contact with children can become a child-safe organisation regardless of whether that organisation works directly with children such as children's coaches or tutors or only has incidental contact with children through their job such as trades people that work in child-environments, or medical centres. Choosing to specialise in a field means that you are completely devoted to it; that you will protect it as if it were your own. That is the energy that sets PCA apart.

PCA opened its doors in 2017. Since then, they've focused on improving outcomes for children by helping organisations improve their practices that keep children safe. Later in 2017 they brought on additional consultants to provide external professional supervision for social workers. Together, Poynting Consulting & Advisory brings an exceptional level of enthusiasm, dedication, and nuanced perspective that makes their practice the holistic and bespoke solution for organisations and sole traders that want to improve their ability to keep children safe and minimise risk for themselves.

Principal Consultant

Bradley Poynting

From working at an Out of Hours Care and Vacation Care Service to holding a national lead role in child protection at the largest early education provider in Australia, Brad has worked toward and advocated for the best interests of children for over 10 years. He began his focus on protecting children from harm when he joined the Department of Communities as a front line child protection worker. Brad gained further experience working in the non-gov sector advocating for children with disabilities in Out of Home Care before returning to Government to exercise the Children Commissioner's Child Advocacy function by working in oversight of Child safety. Wanting to work proactively and preventatively, Brad transitioned to the Early Education sector to work at the nexus of Early Education and Child Protection. Brad’s focus in the ECEC sector has been to increase awareness of the prevention of institutional child abuse and neglect in addition to preventing child abuse and neglect in the community. Brad has held several roles in this sector and rose to be the National Lead - Child Protection for a national early education provider that services over 70,000 children and 50,000 families.
